Gary Jeandron - campaigning on a shaky foundation

Voters in the 80th Assembly District have been receiving political mailers on behalf of GOP candidate Gary Jeandron from a "Nonprofit Organization" located in Sacramento. They operate under the name Small Business Action Committee and appear to have been founded by remnants of the old Howard Jarvis organizations. An interesting feature about two of the mailers is the similarly worded paragraphs prominently displayed under a group photo featuring Jeandron in the center. Here's what one of those mailings says.
"GARY JEANDRON"

"Gary Jeandron was elected to serve on the Palm Springs Unified School Board of Directors. As a school board member he supervises a school district with 24,000 students and an annual budget of $199 million. In this position he has continually shown his dedication to improving education and preparing students for the future."

The paragraph above completely distorts the role of school board members and the extent of their individual responsibility. It's more than just an overstatement, it's represents a failure to be truthful.

The school district is governed by a Board of Education - not a Board of Directors. The members adopt school policies and employ a Superintendent to supervise the district. Individual board members have no school supervisory responsibility. The annual budget is prepared by school district management under the direction of the Superintendent. Board members, with their vote, approve the final budget. They play no role in preparing the budget nor in deciding apportionment of revenues and operating expenses.

If candidate Gary Jeandron continues to campaign on a platform with a shaky foundation similar to that portrayed in recent mailers, it's no wonder political pundits are predicting he will fail in his quest for election to the state legislature.
