Second Presidential Debate
in Nashville Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. is the site
of the October 7th second Presidential debate between Senators John McCain and Barack Obama. NBC News anchorman Tom Brokaw will host the matchup which will
feature a town-hall format before an audience of undecided voters identified by
the Gallup Organization. The audience
will submit questions before the program begins and the host will select the
ones to ask. Each candidate will have two minutes to respond and then later an
additional minute for follow-up. Candidates will be permitted and are expected
to move around the stage.
An All Valley Candidate
Forum in Rancho Mirage The Rancho
Mirage Chamber of Commerce apparently has little interest in the October
7th Presidential debates. They've scheduled their own forum for that evening
from 6:30 to 9 pm at the Rancho Mirage Public
Library to interview candidates running in the 45th Congressional, 37th
State Senate, 64th and 80th Assembly Districts. Their sponsoring organization
title is "The All Valley Legislative Coalition
and the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership". Democratic candidates
Julie Bornstein, Arthur Bravo Guerrero and Manuel Perez, along with their GOP opponents
have been invited. For information phone 760-568-9351, email Darren@ranchomirage.org or visit their website.
Desert Stonewall Democrats
monthly meeting The regularly scheduled October 11th monthly
meeting (second Saturday of each month) of Desert Stonewall Democrats starts at 10 am in
the Palm Springs Desert Pride Community
Center with coffee and snacks. Introductions and program follow at 10:20
am. For information email George Zander. Senator Barbara Boxer
fundraiser for Julie Bornstein The Sierra Ballroom at Sun City,
Palm Desert is the place to be 4:30-6 pm on Saturday, October 11th. Senator
Barbara Boxer will speak of her support
for 45th Congressional District candidate Julie
Bornstein and the upcoming Senator Barack
Obama presidency. It's being sponsored by Democratic Women of the Desert, Democrats of Sun City Palm Desert, Desert Stonewall Democrats, Democrats of the Desert, Desert Foundation for Democracy, Palm Desert Greens Democratic Club, Palm Springs Democratic Club, Democrats of Moreno Valley, Democrats of Trilogy, Pass Democratic Club and others. It's a
fundraiser with a suggested $45 price tag payable in advance or at the door. For
information phone 760-318-5548 or email dwdrsvp@gmail.com.
Democrats in Trilogy to
host Candidate Forum The Desert Vista Ballroom in the Santa Rosa
Clubhouse Trilogy at La Quinta will be the October 14th location of a Democrats in Trilogy candidate forum, 5:30-7:30
pm. 45th Congressional District candidate Julie
Bornstein, 80th Assembly District candidate Manuel Perez, 37th State Senate District
candidate Arthur Bravo Guerrero and Barack Obama for President representative Ed Gubman, are scheduled to be on hand and
speak. All are welcome and refreshments will be served. Contact Barbara Liner at 760-564-2999 or Mike Daugherty at 760-771-8184 for more
information. Local Radio Station
Pundits to Debate Veteran dinosaur watchers may find the upcoming
debate between KPSI radio's Desert Today
program host Stephen Kelly and local
guru-about-everything Morris Beschloss, a
rare spectator opportunity. Beschloss,
who regularly guests on Kelly's program
each Friday, is a staunch conservative who writes an economic news column for
the local newspaper. Many progressives consider Beschloss's abundantly questionable views amply
qualify him for Flat Earth Society
membership. His opponent, radio talk show host Steve Kelly, though deprived of microphone
control, is expected to pull a Palin and hold his own. The sparring duo are set
to meet in the Rancho Mirage Public Library on Friday, October 10th at 7
pm.
American
Heat Motorcycle & Hot Rod Weekend in Palm Springs The Palm
Springs annual noise pollution extravaganza dedicated to motorcyclists is set
for Columbus Day weekend, October 10-12. According to a promotional website
enticing attendance, "This fall come heat up
your autumn with roaring Harley's, sped up hot rods and live rock music."
Residents are indebted to Mayor Steve
Pougnet along with City Council members Ginny Foat and Chris Mills, for it was their council votes
that made it possible for this event to take place. So, even though Mayor Steve Pougnet and others plan to leave town for
the weekend, residents who remain will have reason to remember them. For more
exciting information contact Road Shows at (800)
200-4557.
Coachella Valley Voter
Registration Activity Democratic voter registration coordinator
Suzan Wilkinson reports over 1,000 new
Democratic voters in the valley will have been registered in time for the
November 4th election. There are currently 20 volunteer registration sites in
the valley and the 23 day totals for the period ended September 28th are
impressive. The new registration count stands at 985 Democrats, 175 Republicans
and 233 Others. For more information contact the Democratic Headquarters office in Cathedral
City at 760-328-9425.

RoboCalls are illegal in
California! If you become a RoboCall victim, there's help available from folks
ready to fight those pesky politicians and their fellow travelers who invade

Vice Presidential Debate

between Governor Sarah Palin and Senator
Joe Biden? Who do you think did the best
job? Was there a clear winner or do you think it was a toss-up - more like a

very important $700-billion figure came from?" "It's not based on any particular
data point," a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. "We just wanted to
choose a really large number." — From Bad News for the Bailout. Click here for the Forbes

"Reasonable people have
reasonable arguments for and against this idea. But unreasonable people prefer
unreasonable arguments, like saying we're in for another Great Depression unless
we "do something" right away." — Cato Institute, a Bailout

"During the
vice-presidential debate, Gov. Sarah Palin took her inexperience and made a
mansion out of it. Where was this woman during her interview with Katie
Couric?" — David Brooks, New York Times
"There were times when a slight deer-in-the-headlights
expression washed over her face, almost as though you could see a string being
pulled so she could spout pre-packaged buzz phrases like a vintage Chatty Cathy
doll without really having to think." — Mary Lyon, in a debate
performance comment about Gov. Sarah Palin, California Progressive
Report "In these times, for John
McCain to have chosen this person (Gov.Sarah Palin) to be his running mate is fundamentally
irresponsible. McCain says that he always puts country first. In this important
case, it is simply not true." — Fareed Zakaria, Newsweek

Thanks for the mention!
It is too bad that politicians continue to exempt themselves from Do Not Call law.
StopPoliticalCalls.org is fighting for the privacy of the American voter.
1 - Creating a Political Do Not Call Registry
2 - Testifying in the US Senate about robo calls (Sen. Feinstein’s Robocall Privacy Act)
3 - Forcing states to enforce existing robo call laws (CA, MN, NJ, etc..)
4 - Getting politicians to take a do not robo call pledge (7 have)
As I testified at the US. Senate these robo calls are an epidemic and this election cycle “phone spam” and are invading the privacy of All American Voters.
Our members are taking a stand and saying enough is enough at the National Political Do Not Contact Registry at StopPoliticalCalls.org.
Here is a quote from a member recently:
"I'm a shift worker, working variable shifts. I depend on my sleep to be able to do my job safely and efficiently. I'm a locomotive engineer. Imagine the disaster were I to fall asleep, operating a freight train carrying hazardous materials in your neighborhood, due to fatigue from being awoken in my middle of the night on a continuous basis during election season. Please stop.."
